Getting Your Musical Instruments Fixed Is a Snap With Piero’s Convenient Service

If your car needs a tune up or repair, you probably go to a local garage. Things aren’t very different when your guitar, violin, trumpet, flute, clarinet or saxophone need a tune up or repair. You bring your instrument in need of service to Piero’s Music. 

We can handle a wide variety of repairs right in the store. A guitar or violin restringing, for instance, can be done right in the shop. When repairs require more specialized service, we will send it to one of our expert technicians who will get your instrument in top shape again. One thing to keep in mind: if an instrument needs to be sent out from Piero’s Music, it typically takes seven-to-10 days to get the fixed instrument back to you. 

Okay, so why wouldn’t you just do minor repairs yourself? After all, there are a lot of videos online with instructions about how to repair instruments. 

This is a fair question. You can come into Piero’s Music and buy strings, a tuner and a winder for a restringing project. Well, the truth is that restringing a guitar or bass or violin, for instance, can quickly become trickier than it would seem. Breaking a string – especially the high E on a guitar – is a common problem. Then there are issues like checking the bridge. If an expert like the in-store staff at Piero’s Music checks the bridge of the guitar and it has become loose, we can recommend that the instrument be sent out for repair. If you do it at home and that bridge breaks, you won’t know what to do and it could be a costlier fix.

In fact, instruments are finicky pieces of equipment. Setting up a new guitar – making sure everything is in optimal working order – takes a tremendous eye for detail. In addition to the strings, the truss rod of the neck may need to be adjusted or the action height for the strings may need to be tweaked. There are a lot of small details that need the right wrench or other tool to make an adjustment, and you may not have those at home. By the time you get done figuring out what you need, you will spend a lot of time ordering tools, trying to follow a video, and the final results may not make you happy.

We haven’t mentioned drums yet, but one repair we do for drums is replacing the drum head. Beyond drum head replacement and some basic drum tuning, we don’t do a lot of repair work. An item like drum shell repair is a really specialized service. We don’t have the equipment to do this in-house, but we can find the right technician to work on a damaged drum kit. 

Brass and woodwind instruments are a different category. We work with excellent technicians to get mechanical keys repaired, thorough cleanings completed, and a tune up of an instrument done. When it comes to instruments like trumpets, trombones, flutes, clarinets and saxophones, it often happens that a new player is getting a used instrument, often one that is a “hand me down” from a relative. In that case, it is really important to have the instrument serviced before the new player starts taking lessons. A properly serviced wind instrument should be like playing one that is brand new.
