That’s the musical question asked by the Brooklyn duo They Might Be Giants on their 1992 single “The Guitar.” It’s a fun, upbeat song, but the question is important because the answer could be YOU!
If you never played guitar before, picked it up years ago and put it down, or have a child looking for an instrument to pick up for the first time, a guitar and guitar lessons may be just what you’re looking for. The reason we call people who work in our store consultants and not teachers or technicians is because they will help a customer through an entire process. When you begin the conversation, you may just be thinking about that old guitar that’s sitting in an attic and having it fixed up. That may just be a starting point for a conversation that could grow in many different directions.
For instance, the guitar you have may be an electric that needs service after many years of sitting around. That may be the first step for getting your old guitar into shape. It could need new strings, a neck adjustment or may need some parts replaced. It will probably need a good cleaning and perhaps some oiling with proper guitar oil and conditioner.
Does your electric guitar have a working amp? If you’re going to play, you’ll need an amp and a cable. You may have had one back when you played in your high school garage band, but today it’s a memory. And for younger students, many of our teachers work as music teachers at schools when they’re not giving lessons in the store, so they relate incredibly well to young students.
