One of Todd Rundgren’s biggest hits was the 1983 single “Bang the Drum All Day.” It brings a sense of fun and rebellion, and all of that energy is focused on one instrument: the drums!
The drums are an especially important instrument at Piero’s Music because owner/general manager Mike Fumento spent the first part of his career on the road as a professional drummer with blues legend Popa Chubby. Mike and the percussion instructors at Piero’s Music are heavily invested in the idea that anyone can learn the drums, and that there are a lot of different drums for people to learn. From a traditional drum kit to syn drums, conga drums, bongos or the cajon, drums are essential to having a great musical experience with friends.
What band doesn’t sound exponentially better with drums? What culture doesn’t incorporate drums into its music? Some of our first musical experiences begin with us just tapping our feet or hands to the rhythm of music.
Think about some of the greatest drummers ever: from way back, you have Chick Webb, Gene Krupa and Louie Belson, or popular rock drummers like Neal Peart of Rush, Led Zeppelin’s John Bonham, The Beatles’ Ringo Starr, or Charlie Watts of The Rolling Stones. Heck, there was a time when Desi Arnaz was as well-known for playing conga drums and singing as he was for his comedic acting.
The wonderful thing about having a local resource like Piero’s Music to begin your career as a drummer is that you get a very personal touch. From selecting the right drum kit and cymbals to being matched with drum lessons that will get you acquainted with the drums, a store with a personal touch is essential.
You may not be new to the drums, but it may have been years…or even decades…since you last picked up a drumstick. (Well, with the exception of a chicken drumstick.) Getting back behind the kit and regaining your sense of timing is something that requires careful instruction. Or you could be an intermediate player looking to move up to advanced. Our music teachers have experience dealing with students of various levels of accomplishment, and all agree on one thing: Having lessons with an experienced teacher and practice are the best ways to continue to get better.
You may have some drums that you invested a lot in when you were younger, but when you recently broke them out, they sounded tired. No worries! We can give you drums new life. Make an appointment and the professionals at Piero’s Music will replace your drumheads and tune up your kit so it will sound better than ever. There’s no better teacher than experience and having years on the road as touring drummers makes our drum technicians outstanding at what they do.
